You will be required, if appointed, to give security to the extent of £ in respect of the pecuniary responsibility attaching to your office.

2. It is to be understood that you will be on probation for three years

from the date of your arrival in the Colony; and that, if within the said three years it is established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not qualified for efficient service there, the Governor, subject to the confirmation of the Secretary of State, will have full power to cancel your appointment without any further compensation than a passage back to England, which will be granted only upon his report that you have, by your good conduct,

deserved it.

3. It is also to be understood that your services will be available for

any duties upon which the Governor, in the interests of the public service, may think it desirable to employ you, and that it will be within his discretion to

station you

in any part of the Colony where he may consider that your

presence will be most useful,
